So Activision have finally given us the news we were all expecting – Infinity Ward are working on COD6. We all knew they were, it makes sense when you think about it. No trophy support for COD4, no Dual Shock for COD4 and why? Because Infinity Ward were too busy working on ‘other projects’! The good news is of course, that IW, responsible for making the best game of all time, will be working on the next COD (hopefully a return to the modern day). But it is not all sunshine and blue skies for the gamer. The decision to alternate between IW and Treyarch signals the creation of ‘The COD Factory’. Much like FIFA, Pro-Evo and WWE Smackdown, we will now be getting annual releases of COD. “Why is that bad?” you ask. Well think about it, when was the last time you played a FIFA that felt ‘fresh’. When was the last time you really felt that giant leaps had been made in a “Smackdown!” game? Not since they started the annual updates. We already know that Treyarch are using the COD4 engine and it’s a fairly safe bet the IW will be for COD6. So, what you are going to get is basically an expensive annual expansion pack. Same game, same engine, same graphics, just a few new characters and maybe a different era or setting. RIP COD – 4 will always be the pinnacle of the series, because from here on in, it’s just another yearly cash cow! Pigeonwolf.
